Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Fes -> Ifrane -> Azrou Forest -> Zaida -> Midelt -> Todra Gorge
Our tour will begin after breakfast on the first day. We will drive through the town of Ifrane, the “Switzerland of Morocco” to the cedar forests of Azrou where we will stop to visit the wild Barbary macaques. After some pictures, we will continue to the Berber village of Zaida for lunch, then on to towns like Midelt and Imilchil before we arrive in Todra Gorge. We will spend the night there.
Day 2: Todra Gorge -> Erfoud -> Erg Chebbi (Merzouga)
After breakfast, we will drive toward the desert, passing numerous Berber villages including Tinjdad, Jorf, and Erfoud along the way. The area around Erfoud marks the beginning of the Tafilalet Oasis, the largest in the world. From there, it is only a short drive to Merzouga and the high sand dunes of Erg Chebbi, the beginnings of the great Sahara.
Once we arrive, we will have a little time to rest before we mount camels and ride into the desert toward our camp for the night. Depending on the time, it may be possible to sandboard down the dunes or simply watch a gorgeous sunset in the quiet of the desert. After a delicious dinner, you will be entertained with live music featuring traditional Berber drumming and a campfire before retiring to your private cabin to sleep.
Day 3: Merzouga/Erg Chebbi -> Fes
Early risers will witness a breathtaking sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, we will go back to Merzouga for showers, then drive back to Fes. We should arrive there by evening. We will drop you off at your riad for the night.
