Excursion from Marrakech to Essaouira

Marrakech to Essaouira Day Trip  featuring:

• Argan trees and goats
• Ocean
• Shopping in the medina
• Walking

We will leave your hotel or riad by early and drive toward Essaouira through the towns of Chichaoua and Ounagha. (We can add a visit to a winery here, if you like.) Near Ounagha, you’ll notice some trees with what looks to be surprisingly large fruit. As we get closer you will also notice that those “fruits” are really goats.

The goats climb the trees to enjoy the fruit of Morocco’s iconic argan trees. Argan is used to produce both culinary and cosmetic oils that are known and loved around the world. We will visit the Women’s Argan Cooperative so you can learn the processes for making both kinds of oils and understand how they are different.

You will also learn a little more about the process of preparing oil from the parts of the nut the goats ahem – leave behind. And also from argan nuts fresh from the tree which make the best oil, anyway.

In addition to all that, once we actually get to the city of Essaouira, a local guide will give you a tour of the city and medina. Afterwards there will be time to walk along the beach of this beautiful city on the Atlantic coast. We will enjoy a nice lunch in the afternoon and return to Marrakech before dinner.
